Centennial Silver Dollar

Macro Mondays - Father

Show us something that is a treasured memory of your father.

"The Canadian Centennial Silver Dollar"

"In 1967, Canada was celebrating its 100th Anniversary. To commemorate the centennial, the government minted a limited number of silver dollars. They were rationed out to each citizen of Canada who had a bank account."

"The year 1967 was our 25th anniversary. We were married on Valentines Day in 1942 during WWII just before I was sent to the South Pacific..." note typewritten by my father

To continue the story, Mom and Dad had 25 of these coins. This is because, in 1967, a big party was thrown for them by friends at our church in Canada to celebrate their 25th Valentines Day Silver Anniversary and each of the families kindly donated their special silver coin all beautifully displayed on a silver tree. Prior to his death, Dad distributed one coin to each of his daughters and grandchildren along with this typewritten note.
